Official stresses rule-of-law for new five-year plan period

BEIJING - A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has stressed providing a strong rule-of-law guarantee to facilitate economic and social development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting Friday to study the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

The plenary session, held in Beijing from Oct 26 to 29, adopted the Party leadership's proposals for formulating the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035, charting the course for China's development in the next 15 years.

Guo urged efforts to ensure both development and security and promote the further implementation of the Peaceful China initiative.

He also called for advancing law-based governance and accelerating the building of a socialist country based on the rule of law.
