HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported seven new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including a locally transmitted case whose source infection was unknown, pushing the city’s total number of confirmed cases to 5,355.

The rest of Thursday’s new cases were all imported, including two from the Philippines, one each from Turkey, Brazil, India and Russia

The sole local case on Thursday involved a 40-year-old man who worked as a maintenance worker at Hong Kong International Airport, said Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the communicable disease branch of the Centre for Health Protection, at a press briefing.

The man, who lived in Kam Tin and had not been to his workplace since Oct 27, developed early symptoms of the disease on Oct 30, Chuang said.

He had contact with cargo flight crew, some of them infected, and therefore, the health official said, could be linked to previous patients.

The man visited several playgrounds across the city during the incubation period, to watch his son play soccer. The child has tested negative for the coronavirus, said Chuang.

The child goes to SKH Tin Shui Wai Ling Oi Primary School which announced that on-site classes would be suspended and would switch to online mode on Thursday and Friday.

The rest of Thursday’s new cases were all imported, including two from the Philippines, one each from Turkey, Brazil, India and Russia, Chuang said.
