BEIJING - A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Saturday slammed the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority in Taiwan for making provocative moves and remarks that exposed its nature of seeking "Taiwan independence."

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comments when she was asked about the remarks by DPP leaders on Saturday concerning cross-Straits relations.

Fraught with a confrontation mindset and hostility, the DPP authority once again exposed its nature of seeking "Taiwan independence" by repeatedly peddling ideas for "Taiwan independence",a spokesperson said

Fraught with confrontation mindset and hostility, the DPP authority once again exposed its nature of seeking "Taiwan independence" by repeatedly peddling ideas for "Taiwan independence", clamoring for collusion with external forces and misleading people in Taiwan, Zhu said.

The root cause for the tensions across the Straits is that the DPP authority refuses to recognize the 1992 Consensus that embodies the one-China principle, and pushes forward activities that obstruct cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, instigates acts seeking "Taiwan independence," and takes provocative actions by colluding with external forces, Zhu said, noting that the DPP authority is the only party to blame.

She said that attempts to seek "Taiwan independence" lead to a dead end, confrontation is doomed to fail, and those who bank on foreign forces to build themselves up will become the victim of their own evil deeds.

Zhu urged the DPP authority to stop any provocative remarks and acts for "Taiwan independence" and return to the right track of the political foundation of the 1992 Consensus.

"Only in this way can the two sides of the Strait resume dialogue and consultation, the cross-Strait relations become better, and peace and stability across the Strait be secured," Zhu added.
