German premium carmaker Audi is showcasing a stellar lineup of models at the ongoing Beijing auto show as the latest sign of its confidence and commitment to the Chinese market.

"As a pioneer in future technologies, China is setting the pace in many key areas. The market is of vital importance to us and I consider it a top priority," said Markus Duesmann, chairman of the board of management at Audi AG.

Of the models, the Q5L Sportback, designed specifically for Chinese consumers, and the standard-wheelbase Q5 Sportback are making their global debut at the biennial event.

The two models are expected to set a new benchmark in design, prestige, and versatility in the segment.

This is the first time that Audi is unveiling the standard and long wheelbase versions at the same time, which the carmaker says is further proof of the brand's strong commitment to the Chinese market.

The Q4 e-tron concept, Audi's next milestone in its electrification roadmap, is making its Asian debut at the auto show.

The car is the first electric Audi model developed on Volkswagen Group's electric-car-only MEB platform. The model measures 4,590 mm in length and has a 2,770-mm wheelbase.

It sports an 82-kilowatt-hour battery. Featuring two electric motors, the car generates a maximum output of 225 kW. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

Audi said it will soon begin production of the model in China with its local partner FAW.

"I am convinced that both the Q4 e-tron concept and the Q5L Sportback will delight our customers in China," Duesmann said.

Audi is transforming into a provider of electric mobility. As an important step of its Roadmap E in China, the locally produced Audi e-tron is shown at the auto show as well.

The carmaker said production of the car will start in Changchun, Jilin province, in October.

The e-tron Sportback, which made its global debut in November in the United States last year, is also having its China debut.

Audi said it will offer six more electrified models in China by the end of 2021.

Under its Roadmap E, the brand will put more than 30 electrified models on the market globally by 2025, accounting for 40 percent of its global sales.

Marco Schubert, president of FAW-Volkswagen's Audi division, said electrification and connectivity will highlight the brand's development in the next decade.

Audi's performance models are another point of emphasis at the Beijing auto show, including the RS Q8, the R8 Coupe and the RS5 Sportback. "Audi's comprehensive product lineup here at Auto China 2020 underscores our super-charged brand power," said Audi China President Werner Eichhorn.

"Audi and the FAW Group have the strongest partnership in China's automotive industry, and hand-in-hand we will build another golden decade for Audi in China."

As part of its plan for the next golden decade of growth in China, Audi will produce 12 models in the country by 2022.

Eichhorn said together with local partner FAW, Audi will drive forward its "In China, For China" strategy with fascinating products and services that exceed the expectations of the Chinese customers.

Audi's accumulated sales have exceeded 6 million, the most of any premium carmaker in the country.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Audi is achieving sound development. In the first eight months this year, the brand's sales totaled 430,000, up 2.8 percent year-on-year.

"In fact, compared with sales, we are more concerned with the overall health and soundness of Audi's business, as well as its future development. That is more important for us," said Sun Huibin, executive vice-president of FAW-Volkswagen's Audi sales division.
