Mainland resumes issuing Macao visitor permits for all provinces

Chinese mainland residents in all provinces can get travel permits to Macao as of Wednesday, one week before the National Day Golden Week holiday starts in October.

Mainland travelers are all required to present a negative nucleic acid test certificate valid within the past seven days and a green Guangdong Health Code, but the 14-day quarantine is no longer needed.

Citizens can apply for the permit at local Immigration Department offices through manual processing. Self-application machines are not back in use yet.

The restoration of normal movement for residents between the mainland and Macao gradually started in Zhuhai on Aug 12 and expanded to all Guangdong residents on Aug 26.

In August, the number of visitor arrivals to Macao rocketed by 207 percent month-on-month to 227,113, according to the special administrative region's statistics department.

To attract tourists, the Macao government launched stimulus measures such as issuing travel coupons worth a total of US$290 million and a 50 percent discount for designated hotels and flights.

Macao plans to hold a National Day fireworks show together with is neighboring city Zhuhai, and has moved the Light Festival, which was scheduled for December, to open on Sept 26.
