HK sees 121 new COVID-19 cases, 27th death

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 121 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the 10th day in a row with daily new infections surpassing 100. The financial hub also recorded two more deaths from COVID-19, taking the death toll in the city to 27.

Among the 121 new cases, 118 were locally transmitted, said health officials at a press briefing in the afternoon.

Out of the new local cases, 62 are related to previously confirmed cases, with many getting infected by family members or at gatherings, said Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Center for Health Protection's Communicable Disease Branch.

Chuang added that the CHP failed to trace the source of the remaining 56 local infections.

The latest cases brought the city's infection tally to 3,272. 

The Hospital Authority said 1,187 patients are still hospitalized, including 43 in critical condition.
