Mainland sees 11 new COVID-19 cases, 8 locally transmitted

BEIJING/SHANGHAI/URUMQI - Chinese health authorities said Tuesday that it received reports of 11 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Monday, including three imported cases and eight cases transmitted locally.

Two of the three imported cases were reported in Shanghai while the other was reported in Sichuan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

For the imported cases in Shanghai, one of the patients departed from the United States on July 13 and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport via Germany on July 15. The other patient left the Philippines on July 15 and arrived in Shanghai on the same day.

No deaths related to COVID-19 or new suspected cases were reported Monday.

Meanwhile, another 18 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

By the end of Monday, a total of 2,015 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Out of those cases, 1,935 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 80 remained hospitalized, with three in serious condition. No deaths from imported cases had been reported.

As of Monday, the overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 83,693, including 242 patients who were still being treated, with seven in severe condition. 

In Shanghai, the municipality has so far reported 393 imported cases and 342 locally transmitted cases. 

From July 15 to 20, Xinjiang had reported a total of 55 confirmed COVID-19 cases. 

Altogether, 78,817 people on the mainland had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease, the commission said.

There was still one suspected COVID-19 case , it added.

According to the commission, 7,108 close contacts were still under medical observation after 251 people were released from medical observation Monday.

Also on Monday, six new asymptomatic cases - five in Urumqi and one from outside the mainland - were reported, and one asymptomatic case was re-categorized as a confirmed case.

The commission said 149 asymptomatic cases, including 80 from outside of the mainland, were still under medical observation.  

From July 15 to 20, Xinjiang had reported a total of 55 confirmed COVID-19 cases. By Monday, 3,119 people were still under medical observation.  

By Monday, 1,958 confirmed cases, including 12 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 455 in Taiwan, including seven deaths.

A total of 1,302 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 440 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
