BERLIN - Thiago Alcantara's future keeps Bayern Munich's squad planners busy. The latest in-house rumors speaks of the 29-year-old to sit on packed bags with the destination Liverpool or Spain in mind.

While coach Hansi Flick is praising Thiago Alcantara's skills as one of Europe's best game conductors, a growing fraction at Bayern favours the chance to rebuild the squad

Several media reports say the 29-year-old has already announced his departure in the team's locker room.

After the Bavarians secured their eighth consecutive national title, the Spaniard invited teammates for a barbeque. Afterward, players spoke about their impression of a farewell gathering rather than a title party under social distancing conditions.

Despite a new offer by the Bavarians to sign a follow-up contract until 2023, the gifted midfielder for various reasons didn't sign the paper.

Being sidelined due to an injury, Thiago witnessed the rapid development of his midfield rivals such as Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.

Meanwhile, both 25-year-old German internationals are regarded as close to irreplaceable for the German record-holding champion.

Kimmich and Goretzka stand for the future of the 2013 treble winner while the Spaniard seems to have entered the final chapter of his career. He is said to consider a last-chance transfer to another big side.

Thiago's expected exit is said to provide the opportunity for Bayern to rejuvenate its squad. The club for a while had expressed intentions to update his first-team pool.

The transfer of 18-year-old Paris St Germain talent Tanguy Kouassi is the first step to prepare the squad for the challenges lying ahead.

Thiago's current contract expires in 2021, providing the chance to leave next year without a transfer fee.

Rather than keeping the midfielder for one last season, Bayern is highly interested in gaining significant income to support its efforts to sign German winger Leroy Sane (24) and Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz (21).

While coach Hansi Flick is praising Thiago's skills as one of Europe's best game conductors, a growing fraction at Bayern favours the chance to rebuild the squad.

Despite the Spaniard's latest upswing, his poor performance in the last-16-round clash of last season's Champions League campaign against Liverpool in the Munich arena (3-1) seems unforgotten.

Several TV pundits such as the former Bayern performers Lothar Matthaeus and Mehmet Scholl speak of a manageable loss. "I was surprised for how long he has been in Bayern's shirt already," Scholl said.

In the latest games, Flick gave several prospering talents the chance to show their qualities. Jamal Musiala becomes the youngest first-team performer in Bayern's history with 17 years and 115 days.

Aside from the English-German midfielder Michael Cuisance (20), Sarpreet Singh (21) and Chris Richards (20) turned up as substitutes.

Flick said it might still need some time to kick the can down the road, but the Bayern talents are on a promising track.

Bayern is considering to lend out some of its talents to provide the chance of regular playing minutes.
