LONDON - Brazilian defender David Luiz has agreed to extend his contract with Arsenal, confirmed the Premier League club on Wednesday.

Arsenal have lost two games in a row since the restart of the Premier League and are 10th on the table

Luiz as well as Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares all extended their deals to stay with the London club beyond the end of this season.

"David Luiz, who signed from Chelsea last summer, has agreed a new one-year deal. Pablo will complete his formal move from Flamengo on a long-term deal when the transfer window opens next month. Cedric will also join us permanently on a long-term deal from Southampton," said Arsenal.

Luiz, 33, was sent off during Arsenal's 3-0 loss to Manchester City last Wednesday as the Premier League resumed after a suspension of more than three months due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The 26-year-old Mari from Spain suffered a significant sprain to his left ankle during the match against Manchester City and was likely to return to action in two to three months.

Portuguese Soares joined Arsenal on a six-month loan from Southampton in January but the 28-year-old made no appearance during his loan spell due to injury.

Arsenal have lost two games in a row since the restart of the Premier League and are 10th on the table with eight games remaining. They will travel to Southampton on Thursday.
