BUDAPEST - The UEFA Super Cup final will be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on September 24, Hungarian news agency MTI reported on Wednesday.

The UEFA Super Cup is an annual match between the reigning champions of the two European major football competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

"The decision of the Executive Committee of the European Federation (UEFA) is of historical significance, as Hungary has never held a one-match final in any men's international cup before," MTI said.

Hungary has won several staging rights for prestigious European football events in recent years. In 2019, the Groupama Arena was the final venue for the Women's Champions League and Budapest will co-organize the men's European Football Championship and the 2021 U21 Continental Competition, MTI said.

In March, Budapest received the rights to host the finals of the 2022-23 Europa League.
