Jilin sees 2 among mainland's 4 new cases, 2 imported

BEIJING/CHANGCHUN/HARBIN/WUHAN - Chinese health authorities said Friday that it received reports of four new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Thursday, of which two were imported cases reported in Sichuan province.

The other two cases were transmitted locally in Jilin province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. The two cases, reported in Fengman district in the city of Jilin, were close contacts with earlier confirmed cases in the district, local health authorities said.

No deaths related to the disease were reported Thursday, according to the commission.

One new suspected case imported from abroad was reported in Shanghai, the commission said.

On Thursday, six people were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while the number of severe cases remained eight.

As of Thursday, the overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,971, including 82 patients who were still being treated, and 78,255 people who had been discharged after recovery.

Altogether, 4,634 people had died of the disease, the commission said.

By Wednesday, the mainland had reported a total of 1,711 imported cases. Out of those cases, 1,668 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 43 remained hospitalized with two in severe conditions. No deaths from imported cases had been reported.

The commission said 35 new asymptomatic cases were reported on the mainland on Thursday

The commission said seven people were suspected of being infected with the virus, all of which were imported from overseas.

According to the commission, 4,958 close contacts were still under medical observation after 255 people were released from medical observation Thursday.

Also on Thursday, 35 new asymptomatic cases were reported on the mainland. No cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases, and 45 asymptomatic cases were released from medical observation.

The commission said 365 asymptomatic cases, including 26 from overseas, were still under medical observation.

Jilin

As of Thursday, Jilin had reported a total of 135 confirmed cases transmitted locally, including two deaths and 108 recoveries.

There were still 25 patients receiving treatment in hospital, with three in severe condition, all in the city of Jilin. A total of 1,341 people in close contact with the cases of local transmission were still under medical observation.

Heilongjiang has cleared all existing asymptomatic cases after the last such case was released from medical observation on Thursday, the provincial health commission said

With the last asymptomatic case released from medical observation on Thursday, northeast China's Heilongjiang province has cleared all existing asymptomatic cases, the provincial health commission said Friday.

No new confirmed cases were reported in the province on Thursday. 

Heilongjiang was cleared of confirmed COVID-19 cases after the last patient was discharged from hospital on May 16.

As of Thursday, a total of 19,840 close contacts of COVID-19 patients in the province had been tracked, and 467 people were still undergoing medical observation.

By Thursday, the province had reported a total of 559 cases of local transmission and 386 imported cases.

Hubei

No new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in central China's Hubei province on Thursday, the provincial health commission said Friday.

By Thursday, Hubei has seven confirmed COVID-19 cases, including one in severe condition and one in critical condition.

The province reported 35 new asymptomatic cases on Thursday, while 32 were released from quarantine. The total number of such cases under medical observation was 284 by Thursday.

A total of 283,965 close contacts of COVID-19 patients in the province had been tracked by Thursday, 959 of whom were still under medical observation.

Hubei has so far reported 68,135 confirmed cases in total, including 50,340 in Wuhan. The death toll stands at 4,512, with 3,869 deaths recorded in the provincial capital of Wuhan.

HK, Macao, Taiwan

By Thursday, 1,063 confirmed cases, including four deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 441 in Taiwan, including seven deaths.

A total of 1,029 patients in Hong Kong, 45 in Macao, and 407 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
