MADRID - Football in Spain is likely to be played behind closed doors until the end of 2020 according to stories published in Spanish sports newspapers, Diario AS and Marca on Thursday.

It is still not sure when the remainder of the 2019-2020 season will be played

The outlets reported that La Liga President Javier Tebas held video conferences with the clubs in Spain's first and second divisions to explain the current situation regarding measures to control the coronavirus.

The Spanish government has already indicated that until a vaccine is discovered for the coronavirus, social distancing measures will have to be maintained in Spain, making it virtually impossible to play games with supporters in the stands.

It is still not sure when the remainder of the 2019-2020 season will be played, although following a meeting between La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) earlier in the week, both organizations agreed to attempt to return to training in the middle of May and restart the competition in June, depending on how and when restrictions are lifted.

Meanwhile the final of the Copa del Rey, which was due to be played between Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Sociedad on April 18, will now be played either over the Christmas period or in the spring of 2021 as the RFEF are keen for the fans of both sides to be able to attend the match.
