Mainland reports 4 imported cases out of 11 fresh infections

BEIJING/HARBIN/WUHAN - Chinese health authorities said Tuesday that it received reports of 11 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland Monday, of which four were imported.

The other seven new cases were domestically transmitted, the National Health Commission said in a daily report, noting that six cases were reported in Heilongjiang province and one in Guangdong province.

The four new imported cases pushed the total number of imported cases on the mainland to 1,587 as of Monday

No deaths were reported Monday on the mainland. Three new suspected cases, including two imported cases and one domestic case in Heilongjiang, were also reported.

According to the commission, 39 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery Monday, while the number of severe cases stood at 82.

As of Monday, the mainland had reported a total of 1,587 imported cases. Of the cases, 776 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 811 were being treated with 44 in severe conditions, said the commission.

No deaths from the imported cases had been reported, it added.

Fewer than 10 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, both imported and domestic, have been reported daily for three consecutive days, said Mi Feng, an official with the commission, warning about new clustered infections at a press conference.

The number of severe cases dropped below 20 in central China's Hubei province for the first time on Monday, but the number has been on the rise in other provinces in the past week, Mi said.

He urged officials to maintain regular anti-epidemic prevention and control measures.

The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,758 by Monday, including 1,003 patients who were still being treated and 77,123 people who had been discharged after recovery, the commission said.

Altogether 4,632 people had died of the disease, it said.

The commission said that 37 people, including 32 from abroad, were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

It added that 8,791 close contacts were still under medical observation. On Monday, 882 people were released from medical observation.

Also on Monday, 37 new asymptomatic cases, including two from abroad, were reported on the mainland. Three asymptomatic case, all domestic ones, were re-categorized as confirmed ones, and 32 people, six of whom were from abroad, were released from medical observation, according to the commission.

The commission said 992 asymptomatic cases, including 180 from abroad, were still under medical observation.

By Monday, 1,025 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 422 in Taiwan including six deaths.

A total of 630 patients in Hong Kong, 22 in Macao and 203 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.  Enditem

Heilongjiang

In addition to the six locally-transmitted confirmed cases, Heilongjiang also reported two new imported cases, the provincial health commission said Tuesday.

All the new imported cases were Chinese nationals returning from Russia.

By Monday, the province had reported a total of 383 confirmed imported COVID-19 cases. It had traced 2,093 close contacts, with 429 still under medical observation.

On Monday, Heilongjiang also reported six new locally-transmitted asymptomatic cases and two imported asymptomatic cases. The province had a total of 39 imported asymptomatic cases by Monday. 

Hubei

No new confirmed cases and deaths were reported in Hubei province Monday, local health authorities said Tuesday.

The provincial health commission said Hubei had 544 asymptomatic cases under medical observation by Monday following 20 newly reported such cases.

The provincial health commission said three COVID-19 patients, all in the provincial capital of Wuhan, were discharged from hospital after recovery on Monday.

A total of 102 patients remained in hospital in the province by the end of Monday. Nineteen of them were in severe or critical condition.

Hubei has so far reported 68,128 confirmed COVID-19 cases in total, including 50,333 in Wuhan.
