The Hong Kong government said on Tuesday that 24 people have been sent to quarantine centers for violating the home isolation order for all overseas returnees issued on March 19.

Ten people were sent to government-designated quarantine facilities on Tuesday after they were tracked down by the police tipped off by the public or the surveillance devices they were required to wear, the government said in a statement.

On Monday, seven people who had violated the home quarantine order were intercepted, thanks to the reports by citizens, the statement said.

The Department of Health and the police will follow up on the cases before pressing charges, the statement read.

The government called on the public to report violations of the home quarantine order on the police’s report system (www.erc.police.gov.hk/cmiserc/CCC/PolicePublicPage?language=ch) and mobile app "Tell me@1823". People can also report the cases on the government or police hotlines, according to the statement.

The government appealed to those under quarantine to strictly observe the order. The maximum penalty for violation is six months’ imprisonment and a fine of HK$25,000.
