MADRID - Espanyol's Chinese international striker Wu Lei is the outfield player in Spain who has participated in the most games this season, according to Barcelona-based sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.

The striker has featured, either in the starting 11 or as a substitute, in 38 of Espanyol's 44 games, appearing for them 22 times in La Liga, three times in the Copa del Rey and 13 times in the Europa League.

Wu, who has scored seven goals this season, has been a key player for all three men to lead Espanyol in a trying campaign, which sees the club currently rooted to the bottom of La Liga.

Wu has played under the guidance of David Gallego, Pablo Machin and current coach Abelardo Fernandez, with 14 of his league appearances in the starting 11 and eight coming off the bench.

Wu has also had the virtue of not missing a single game due to injury or suspension, and the only occasion he was not included in Espanyol's matchday squad came in the club's final Europa League group stage match, when Espanyol had already booked their place in the tournament's knockout stage.

The only other player in Spain to have made as many appearances as Wu is Espanyol's veteran goalkeeper Diego Lopez, but that will change on Sunday when Espanyol entertain Alaves as Lopez is suspended after being sent off against Osasuna last weekend.
