BERLIN - Ahead of three crucial games Borussia Dortmund are concerned about team-captain Marco Reus.

The 30-year-old is not only going to miss his side's essential league games against Borussia Moenchengladbach and the derby against Schalke 04 but the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Paris St Germain next Tuesday.

Some media indicate Reus might even miss Euro 2020 starting in June due to difficulties around his injury

Reports suggest the injured German international will also be side-lined for the national team's friendlies against Spain and Italy in March.

Some media indicate Reus might even miss Euro 2020 starting in June due to difficulties around his injury. "It is far from an ordinary muscle tear causing a break of three weeks," Reus commented after his last game in the German Cup against Bremen on February 4th.

At present, predictions about his return don't make sense the striker said, "I can't say when I will be back in the Bundesliga."

Reus' injury record doesn't promote a lot of optimism. In 2016 he suffered an inflamed pubic joint and was out of action for over six months.

Due to several injuries, the 44-time German capped forward missed the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2016 Euro in France.

"We are ahead of a challenging week and start against a close rival in the race for this season's national title," Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said ahead of Saturday's duel against Moenchengladbach.

Zorc spoke of a stress-test for coach and team.

Prognostications over Reus "don't play a significant role as we have to take things as they are," Zorc added, demanding the striker needs time to recover fully. Reus has scored 11 season goals with six assists this season.

"It doesn't make sense to return to action at 70 or 80 percent. We won't risk a secondary injury," the Black and Yellow's coach Lucien Favre emphasized. The 62-year-old called Reus a significant figure but said he is facing a battle for success without the team leader.

The Swiss' optimism might be based on the performance of his side's top scorers, such as English international Jadon Sancho (14 goals/15 assists/22 games) and Norwegian wonderboy Erling Haaland (9/1/10).

Favre said his team is well prepared for the three crucial tests ahead. "We need to take it step-by-step and only talk about the next game," the Borussia coach said in advance of the clash against the "foals", which is seen as decisive on the road to the 2020 national title.

Saturday's Bundesliga headline game is said to be Moenchengladbach's (46 points) last chance to join the table's top three, such as Bayern (52), Leipzig (49) and Dortmund (48).

Zorc said the defeat against Bremen in the last-16 round of the German Cup must be seen as a warning shot as "we played enchanting football before, but we now know we need to be entirely focused in every game."

Considering that, things don't look too bad for Dortmund as the Black and Yellow's won their last nine games against their namesakes.
