Macao announces relief measures for residents

HONG KONG - Macao government on Thursday announced a package of relief measures to help people weather the hardship brought about by the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. 

All permanent Macao residents will receive MOP3,000 vouchers for online purchases and enjoy water and electricity waivers for three months

Lei Wai-nong, secretary for economy and finance, said at the daily press conference that all residents of Macao would receive MOP3,000 (US$373.8) vouchers for online purchase when the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic is brought under control.  

The e-voucher can only be used in the city, Lei added.

Meanwhile, water and electricity charges for all residential units will be waived for three months. 

All permanent residents will also receive a MOP600 medical voucher while the neediest families will receive two months’ extra subsidies, according to Lei.

On the same day, one more patient infected with the coronavirus was discharged from hospital, bringing the number of recovered cases in the special administrative region to three. 

As of Thursday, the city has recorded 10 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection. There have been no new confirmed cases in nine consecutive days.
