TOKYO - Tokyo Metro on Tuesday launched a campaign calling for "off-peak" commuting to work during this summer's Olympic Games.

The move encourages people exiting stations near the venue of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to avoid rush hours.

Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun said that this is the second time since last summer that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has advocated this idea to ease traffic congestion during the Games.

"If you exit the ticket gate before or after the morning rush hour at a total of eight stations around the Olympic venues, points can be awarded and then used for fares," the report said.

"There might also be a chance to win a ticket for the Games with those points," it said.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9 and the Paralympics runs from August 25 to September 6.
