Hong Kong’s health authorities have stepped up the monitoring of infant formulas after Macao’s food safety authorities last month flagged a batch of Friso infant formula for lead levels possibly exceeding local limits.

The Department of Health said on Wednesday that no cases of lead poisoning have been identified in infants or young children who consumed the Frisolac Prestige Stage 1 Infant Formula with batch number 1W07KPJ.

The Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department stepped up the surveillance of lead content in powdered infant and follow-up formula in the market, the department said in a statement.

“To date, no cases have been found to exceed Hong Kong's statutory standard for lead,” the statement reads.

The department said its hotline and Maternal and Child Health Centres have received 762 inquiries, as of noon Wednesday, and referred 446 infants and young children to the Hospital Authority for assessment.

Among them, 237 have undergone clinical assessments and the results indicated that their overall health is good and that none have shown signs of lead poisoning, according to the statement.
