BEIJING – A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for arranging a visit by some anti-China foreign politicians to Kinmen, calling the move "a farcical and pathetic political show."

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to media reports that several lawmakers from Western countries attending a meeting in Taiwan visited Kinmen on Thursday and boarded a Taiwan coast guard vessel to inspect nearby waters.

The visiting politicians, known for repeatedly provoking confrontation and smearing China, would see the busy passenger ferry service operating between Xiamen of Fujian province and Kinmen, as well as the close geographic proximity between the two places, said Chen.

Anyone with basic knowledge and a sense of conscience should recognize that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, understand the growing trend of closer exchanges between compatriots on both sides of the Strait and realize that the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people will never allow anyone or any force to separate Taiwan from China, he said.

The spokesperson also warned that attempts by the DPP authorities to pursue their secessionist agenda by relying on external forces are doomed to fail and will only make them “a laughingstock.”
