Two People’s Liberation Army Navy vessels entered the waters of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region via the city’s iconic Victoria Harbour on Thursday morning, as crowds of residents and tourists gathered along the waterfront to watch their arrival, adding momentum to citywide celebrations of the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with the motherland.

During their visit from Thursday to Monday, guided-missile destroyer CNS Nanning and guided-missile frigate CNS Hengyang will berth at the Hong Kong Garrison’s Stonecutters Island Naval Base. Residents who have made online bookings via the Hong Kong Garrison’s official WeChat public account can join guided tours of the vessels along designated routes.

The event aims to offer residents a closer look at the nation’s military strength and the PLA’s latest developments.
