The Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens kicked off on Friday at the Kai Tak Sports Park, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The opening ceremony showcased a diverse array of celebrations, including a dragon dance, a light show, robot cheerleaders, and music from a K-pop group.

The three-day rugby extravaganza continued for its second consecutive year at the new venue, combining world-class rugby, fancy dress, and live music, as costumed fans transformed the stadium into a carnival-like setting.

China Daily's Andy Chong and D J Clark took the photos on Friday.
