HONG KONG – The second phase of the 139th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) – set to be held in Guangzhou from April 23 to 27 – will spotlight product categories such as hardware, housewares, gifts and decorations, as well as building materials and furniture.

Forums on “Green Building Materials and Smart Home Industry” and “Emerging Markets (Central Asia, Central and Eastern Europe) Trade Compliance Development” will be held on April 24 and 25, respectively.

The 139th Canton Fair is the largest edition to date, running in three phases across 1.55 million square meters of area and featuring over 32,000 onsite exhibitors.

A festival connecting GBA cities

The 6th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Culture Festival will, for the first time, adopt a “four-city collaboration” model across Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Macao.

Running from April 22 to June 28, the festival will feature 10 productions spanning Yue Opera, Taizhou Luantan Opera, Cantonese opera and more, with 23 performances.

The all-female cast of Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe will present its original production of Su Dongpo as the festival’s opening performance at Hong Kong’s Xiqu Centre on April 24. Meanwhile, the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Troupe has curated a series of Cantonese opera excerpts to be staged in Hong Kong.

For the first time, the festival establishes a Shenzhen venue, where three dramas will be staged.

Developer-focused robotics expo

FAIR plus, an exhibition dedicated to the robotics supply chain and robot development, will open in Shenzhen on April 22.

According to organizers, the three-day event is the world’s first trade show of its kind. More than 500 upstream suppliers and robot manufacturers will exhibit, covering over 50 segments of embodied intelligent robotics value chain.

About 75 percent of exhibitors will be upstream suppliers, including makers of control systems and sensors, as well as developers of AI algorithms and computing chips. The remaining exhibitors specialize in robot design, research and development, and systems integration.

The event will also feature forums and networking sessions to discuss technological advances and applications of robotics in areas such as healthcare, marine industries and agriculture.
