JAKARTA - Indonesia has summoned Meta and Google for failing to comply with newly enforced regulations aimed at strengthening child protection on digital platforms late Monday.

The move follows the implementation of the 2025 government regulation on electronic system governance for child protection and its accompanying rules, which took effect on March 28.

"Today, the government has issued summonses to both companies as part of the enforcement of administrative sanctions in accordance with prevailing regulations," said Meutya Hafid, the country's minister of communication and digital affairs.

The two companies, operators of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and YouTube, had violated Ministerial Regulation No 9 of 2026, which classifies certain digital platforms as high-risk and mandates restrictions on children's access, said the minister.

She added that warning letters had also been sent to TikTok and Roblox Corporation, which have only partially complied with the requirements, while platforms including X Corp and Bigo Live were deemed fully compliant.

Meutya emphasized that the government would prioritize cooperation with digital platforms that adhere to national regulations and demonstrate commitment to safeguarding children online.
