HKBUAS 20th Anniversary Symposium Kicks Off a Dialogue on AI Educational Transformation
By chinadailyhk.com

As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes the way society operates, how should education respond? Should schools follow technological advancements, or take the lead in driving change? In this intelligent age driven by algorithms and generative models, the Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School (HKBUAS) is proud to present its 20th Anniversary Symposium “Schooling in the AI Era – Leading Transformation and Driving Development”. The symposium aims to create a platform for deep reflection and cross-sector dialogue within the education community.

Bringing together academic leaders and professionals from around the world, the symposium will explore how AI is transforming teaching and learning, institutional structures, and the core values of education — from the perspectives of policy, theory, and practice.

Prof. Wong Kam Fai will open the discussion by examining the macro-policy context of "AI+" and analyzing how AI has become a key driver of industrial and institutional transformation. Prof. Li Zhengtao will offer a deeper structural reflection in his keynote speech, focusing on four critical questions: "What needs to change? How should it change? What challenges must be addressed? What pitfalls must be avoided?" Prof. Wu Gang will envision a future of human-machine coexistence from the perspective of "creative emergence in education," proposing that education must shift from "knowledge transmission" to "the generation of wisdom" in the AI era.

In addition to the keynote speeches, the symposium will feature an expert forum titled "Redefining Educational Leadership in the AI Era". Scholars from local universities will explore the impact of AI on school management and leadership models. As data analytics and generative tools begin to support decision-making and administration, how can educational leaders balance efficiency with core values? This forum will offer forward-looking insights for school principals and senior management.

Another forum, "AI Applications in the Real World", will bring together professionals from the fields of engineering, law, healthcare, and architecture to share practical experiences of AI implementation across industries. Through cross-sector dialogue, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the competencies that future societies will truly demand.

The symposium will also feature an educational technology exhibition and multiple breakout workshops led by international tech organizations and education experts, showcasing the practical application of AI in instructional design and school operations. Ideas and practice will intersect in the same space, allowing participants not only to reflect on the future but also to experience it firsthand.

Amid the rising tide of intelligent technology, education cannot afford to merely respond. This symposium seeks to pose a more profound question: In this rapidly advancing age of AI, what kind of next generation do we hope to cultivate? How should schools strike a balance between technology and human values? Can a future of human-machine collaboration truly serve the holistic development of individuals?

The HKBUAS 20th Anniversary Symposium is more than a commemoration — it is a starting point for the future. As artificial intelligence reshapes the rhythm of the world, is education ready to become a leader, not just a follower?
