A hillside fire broke out on hills near Ping Che in Fanling, New Territories, on Thursday afternoon, and burned for over four hours, with flames so intense that they were visible as far away as Shenzhen.

Police said they received multiple reports at about 5 pm about a fire on a hillside near Ping Che. Firefighters who arrived at the scene found two fire lines, one of which stretched up to 100 meters long.

The blazing line of fire was clearly visible from nearby areas, including Kwan Tei North Tsuen, Ha Shan Kai Wat, Tai Po Tin, and Ping Che, with some web users reporting they could even see it from Heung Yuen Wai Control Point.

Fire crews by 9 pm had managed to contain the blaze to a single fire line about 70 meters long near Ha Shan Kai Wat.
