Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has called for moving with agility and steadiness, seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges in the Year of the Horse to propel the city forward.

He issued a message on the eve of the Spring Festival holiday on Monday, expressing his hope for swift success in people's every endeavor.

“Chinese New Year is the festival we eagerly anticipate, a time when every household decorates and prepares to welcome new beginnings. As the spirited steed gallops forward, leaving the old year behind, we stand united to embark on a new journey,” Lee said in the message.

The horse, symbolizing speed and stamina, boldly charges ahead, covering vast distances every day, he said, adding that it embodies the tenacity and resilience of Hong Kong people.

“As we step into the Year of the Horse, let us continue to move with agility and steadiness, seizing opportunities, overcoming challenges, and propelling Hong Kong forward.”

In a one minute-long video themed after the horse, he is seen with a ceramic plate painted with the zodiac animal.

His wife Janet Lee Lam Lai-sim also appears in the video, seen painting a separate plate with auspicious words about horses.

“My wife and I wish for every sector in Hong Kong to lead the way, for every endeavor to meet with swift success, and for the Year of the Horse to bring good fortune and joy to all,” added the CE.
