Ten students from universities across Hong Kong were honored on Sunday for their outstanding academic and social contributions at the 2025 “Study in Hong Kong” 10 Outstanding International Students in Hong Kong Selection awards ceremony.

Held at the City University of Hong Kong, the ceremony was attended by senior government officials including Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin and Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Clement Woo.

The ceremony showcases Hong Kong’s concerted effort to reinforce its position as a premier hub for global education and talent, amid improvements to integrate into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and fulfill national strategic goals.

Chan Yung, Hong Kong deputy to the National People’s Congress and member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, praised the awardees for embodying the spirit of innovation, resilience, and global vision. “This recognition is not only for individual achievement but also a vivid demonstration of Hong Kong’s vitality as an international education hub.”

Officials emphasized the strategic timing of the event.

Clement Woo urged the students to leverage Hong Kong’s role as a connector, encouraging them to integrate their aspirations into the national development, particularly through opportunities in the Bay Area.

As the advisory organization of the event, China Daily Hong Kong has long been committed to nurturing youth voices, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and promoting global dialogue. The event is an extension of that mission. By spotlighting the real stories of international students in Hong Kong, the initiative aims to deepen the world’s understanding of the city’s unique education system while encouraging young people to see themselves as storytellers and cultural ambassadors.

Award recipients will gain access to a series of follow‑up opportunities organized by VDO English, the education arm of China Daily Hong Kong. These development activities include professional media production support to help winners articulate their personal stories, as well as the opportunity to participate international events.

Selected students also will have the opportunity to travel to Belt and Road countries, participate in cultural exchanges as Study in Hong Kong Ambassadors, and share their personal stories with top‑tier students in those countries.

Freddy Boey Yin Chiang, president and distinguished university professor of City University of Hong Kong, reinforced the commitment of local institutions to providing a multicultural academic environment.

“We are dedicated to nurturing future leaders with a global vision and a strong sense of social responsibility,” he said.

The event, held by the Youth Expats Association and advised by China Daily Hong Kong and China Education Exchange (Hong Kong) Centre, started on Sept 14, attracting around 60 students from universities in Hong Kong. After a 13-day fierce competition, 10 top students won the Certificate of Excellence – Top 10 Outstanding International Students in Hong Kong 2025 award, and other 18 students won Future Leadership Excellence Award – Study in Hong Kong 2025 and the “Study in Hong Kong” Promotion Ambassador 2025 separately.
