Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that the international community needs to distinguish right from wrong and not be misled by Tokyo, adding that Japan's allies in particular should stay vigilant and avoid being led astray.

Guo made the remarks after the United States criticized China for the so-called issue of "radar illumination" during China's normal military activities, as falsely claimed by Japan.

Guo said it is the Japanese side that is deliberately provoking the situation and fabricating claims in an attempt to hype the issue.

"Japan is the planner and perpetrator of this farce and must bear full responsibility," Guo said at a regular news briefing.

The spokesman added that Chinese media had already released audio recordings and other details to demonstrate that "the facts are crystal clear".

Guo said China's training activities in the relevant maritime and airspace areas fully complied with international law and practice, and that Chinese operations were "professional, safe and restrained".
