CE: Acts exploiting fire tragedy won’t be tolerated

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will do everything to ensure justice to those who dared to sabotage the city’s attempt to become united after Tai Po fire tragedy, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks while commenting on the arrest of three people on suspicion of incitement during fire relief efforts.

“ I will not tolerate any crimes, particularly crimes that exploit the tragedy that we are facing now. Everybody in Hong Kong is uniting to help those who suffer to continue their living and face up to the future,” Lee told reporters ahead of the Executive Council meeting.

“Anybody who dares to sabotage this attempt, this commitment of society, we will do anything we can to ensure that justice will be done,” he stressed.

He reiterated that law enforcement agencies had an obligation to take action against illegal acts, regardless of their nature or background of those involved.

“Challenges keep us united and we must rise from sorrow. We need to show the solidarity of Hong Kong and build a better Hong Kong,” the CE added.
