MOSCOW - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had thwarted an attempted railway sabotage in the Altai Territory and killed two perpetrators who opened fire during their arrest, TASS news agency reported on Monday.
According to the FSB's Public Relations Center, the two local residents were preparing an attack on railway infrastructure under the coordination of Ukrainian special services and members of an organization banned in Russia.

The incident occurred on Saturday on a railway section between the Altayskaya and Biysk stations, where the two men attempted to install a so-called derailment device on tracks intensively used by both freight and passenger trains, the FSB said.
The FSB released a video showing the perpetrators conducting reconnaissance at the planned attack site and arriving in an SUV before approaching the tracks under a railway bridge.

The video then shows security officers arriving, dispersing around the perpetrators' vehicle, and returning fire after the men shot at them. It also displays bullet damage to an FSB vehicle, the bodies of the two suspects with weapons nearby, and ammunition found in their car. Several angles of the derailment device that the perpetrators planned to install are also shown.
