Flooding displaces over 5,000 people in northern Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR - Flooding displaced over 5,000 people in Malaysia, with the hardest-hit area being the northern state of Kelantan, according to authorities on Sunday.

Kelantan, which has seen continuous heavy rains over several days, recorded 5,142 flood evacuees, who were being housed in 26 flood relief centers.

The neighboring state of Terengganu recorded 528 evacuees as of 3 pm local time, according to the country's social welfare department.

The meteorological department has issued warnings of continuous heavy rains and strong winds.
