Over 127m voters registered for Bangladesh's 13th general election

DHAKA - The Bangladeshi Election Commission has announced that more than 127 million voters are registered for the country's 13th general election scheduled for February next year.

The commission published the third list of voters on Sunday, stating that the number of voters across the country stands at 127.61 million, of whom 1.30 million are new voters.

During a briefing at the EC's headquarters in Dhaka, Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the national voter figures, saying that the final voter list will be published on Nov 18, following the resolution of all claims and objections.

Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus announced in August that the country's 13th general election would be held in February 2026, the first time since a mass uprising ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year.

The Bangladeshi Chief Adviser's office on Wednesday announced that the country's Election Commission could declare the date for the upcoming national election by the first week of December this year.
