Sound growth of ties with Canada stressed

China and Canada agreed to restart exchanges and cooperation in various areas, work toward addressing each other's specific economic and trade concerns, and jointly advance the strategic partnership, as President Xi Jinping met on Friday with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Xi said that thanks to joint efforts, China-Canada relations have shown positive momentum of recovery and improvement, which serves the shared interests of both countries.

China stands ready to work with Canada to take this meeting as an opportunity to bring bilateral ties back onto the right track of sound, steady and sustainable development at an early date to better benefit the two peoples, he added.

He stressed that both sides should foster objective and rational perceptions of each other, adhere to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, expand practical cooperation in areas such as the economy, trade and energy, and enhance people-to-people exchanges.

Xi also called for strengthening coordination and cooperation in multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, jointly promoting a more just and equitable global governance system, and safeguarding international fairness and justice.

Carney told Xi that the new Canadian government attaches great importance to its relations with China, and looks forward to resuming cooperation and advancing bilateral ties in a pragmatic and constructive manner to achieve more outcomes.

Canada is ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with China, advance cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy and climate change, jointly practice multilateralism and uphold free trade, Carney added.

Beijing, Bangkok to align growth strategies

President Xi Jinping said China is ready to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with Thailand and share its development experience in the new era, when meeting on Friday with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Xi called for accelerating the construction of the China-Thailand railway and boosting cooperation in areas such as agricultural product trade, the green economy and digital innovation.

He urged the two countries to step up efforts to crack down on cross-border crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud, and create a safe environment for bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Bilateral ties entered a new phase of building a China-Thailand community with a shared future during his visit to Thailand in November 2022, further strengthening their friendship and cooperation momentum, Xi said.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship. Both sides should work together to advance the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future to support each other's modernization drive and make greater contributions to the region's peace and development, Xi said.

Xi expressed deep condolences on the passing of Thailand's Queen Mother Sirikit, and asked the prime minister to convey his heartfelt sympathies to Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua.

Anutin said Thailand hopes to strengthen multilateral collaboration with China to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

He said Thailand will continue to harshly crack down on online gambling and telecommunications fraud.

Tokyo called on to foster correct perception

President Xi Jinping has highlighted the coexistence of opportunities and challenges in the current China-Japan relations, and urged Japan's new cabinet to establish a correct perception toward China and adhere to the overarching direction of peace, friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Xi made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

He underlined the need for Japan to adhere to the clear stipulations in the four key political documents between China and Japan on significant issues, such as history and the Taiwan question, to ensure that the foundation of bilateral ties remains unshaken.

The Murayama Statement, which offered a profound reflection on Japan's history of aggression and extended apologies to affected countries, should be upheld, he added.

Xi pointed out the vast potential for China-Japan cooperation and called for joint efforts to uphold a multilateral trade system and ensure stable and unimpeded supply chains.

He also stressed the need to manage differences effectively, and avoid letting disputes define bilateral ties.

Takaichi said Japan is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China, enhance communication at all levels, enhance mutual understanding and promote cooperation, adding that Tokyo is committed to building constructive, stable bilateral ties with Beijing.

On the Taiwan question, she said that Japan remains committed to the position stated in the Japan-China joint communique in 1972. Japan fully understands and respects the People's Republic of China's stand that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the PRC, according to the joint communique.
