Japan, China's Hong Kong into men's semis at Asian Table Tennis Team Championships

NEW DELHI - Japan and Hong Kong, China both sailed into the men's team semifinals after defeating India and South Korea respectively at the ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar, India on Sunday.

Wong Chun-ting brought a good start for Hong Kong, China with a straight-game victory over Manush Shah 11-5, 11-9, 13-11, before Chan Baldwin and Lam Siu-hang edged India's Manav Thakkar and Ankur Bhattacharjee 3-2 to secure their team's victory.

World No 4 Tomokazu Harimoto earned two wins for Japan, while Sora Matsushima added another one to clinch a 3-1 team victory. Oh Jun-sung contributed to South Korea's only win, sweeping Shunsuke Togami 11-7, 11-5, 11-8.

In the women's team quarterfinals, Japan endured a five-set thriller to dispatch the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, while the Republic of Korea defeated Hong Kong, China 3-1.

China's men's and women's teams will kick off their campaigns in Monday's quarterfinals.

A total of 22 men's and 20 women's teams participate in the continental event, with 13 qualification spots per gender for the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals in London on offer.
