MADRID - FC Barcelona missed the chance to go back to the top of La Liga on Sunday when they suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Sevilla.
The result leaves Barcelona two points behind Real Madrid as La Liga heads into the international break and coach Hansi Flick will be worried by a dip in form which coincided with the absence of key players.
Without the injured trio of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Fermin Lopez, Barca was overrun by Sevilla in the first half.
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when Ronald Araujo brought down Sevilla's Isaac Romero and former Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez stepped up to slot the resulting penalty into the bottom corner.
Romero and Sanchez were proving to be a handful for the Barca defense, with Romero inches away from Sanchez's cross and then shooting at Wojciech Szczesny when he could have done better.
The striker finally got his reward in the 36th minute after Gabriel Suazo and Ruben Vargas combined to allow a simple finish.
Barcelona had been second best all half, but Rashford got Hansi Flick's side back into the game when he got onto Pedri's cross in the sixth minute of first half injury time.
Things changed at the start of the second half, with Barcelona looking to pin Sevilla back in the home side's half, although Szczesny had to pull off another fine save to deny Isaac.
It was then the turn of Sevilla goalkeeper, Odysseas Vlachodimos, who first blocked Ferran Torres' low drive, before denying Eric Garcia's header from the resulting corner.
Lewandowski had a great chance to level the match in the 72nd minute when Alejandro Balde was brought down by Adnan Januzaj, but the veteran striker sent his spot-kick wide.
Jose Antonio Carmona sealed Sevilla's first home win since February in the last minute of the game with a wonderful goal that was assisted by Lucien Agoume and Akor Adams rubbed salt into Barcelona's wounds with a fourth goal in injury time.
