Shanbei Public School, an original play produced by Renmin University of China, was performed at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on Sept 21.
The play depicts the history of its namesake institution, the precursor to Renmin University. Founded by the Chinese Communist Party in 1937 during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945), it served as a crucial training ground for many who became key figures in the resistance effort.
The Hong Kong debut attracted an audience of approximately 1,500. Attendees included faculty and students from multiple local universities — PolyU, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Lingnan University — as well as Renmin University alumni and members of the Hong Kong community.
Distinguished guests present included Zhou Qiang, deputy director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong; Shen Qiping, associate vice president of PolyU; and Wang Yi, deputy Party Secretary and vice president of Renmin University of China.
“This event was not merely an artistic performance but also a profound spiritual dialogue. It provided Hong Kong youth with a more intuitive understanding of the nation's history, strengthening their national identity and patriotic spirit,” said Shen.
The photos of the play have been provided to China Daily.
