Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.13 percent to 3,812.22 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.38 percent higher at 12,557.68 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.98 trillion yuan (about $278.63 billion), down from 2.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to oil and gas, film and cinema, as well as hardware for computing power, led the gains, while those related to battery and non-ferrous metals suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.27 percent to close at 2,904.27 points Wednesday.
