Irfaan Ali sworn in as president of Guyana for 2nd time

CARACAS - Irfaan Ali on Sunday was sworn in as president of Guyana at the presidential residence in the capital Georgetown, officially beginning his second presidential term, said local authorities.

Ali, as the candidate of the People's Progressive Party/Civic, won the general election held on Sept 1 and was successfully re-elected as president, according to the Guyana Elections Commission.

In the election, the People's Progressive Party/Civic won 36 seats, the We Invest in Nationhood party secured 16 seats, A Partnership for National Unity garnered 12, and the Forward Guyana Movement secured one seat, the election results showed.
