20 dead, 134 injured in incident at facility in central Russia

MOSCOW - Twenty people were killed and 134 injured after a fire broke out at a production facility in the Shilovsky district of central Russia's Ryazan Oblast, the regional operational headquarters said Monday.

As of 7:00 am Moscow time (0400 GMT), 20 people had been confirmed dead, the center said in a statement. Among the injured, 31 were being treated in hospitals in Ryazan and Moscow, while 103 were receiving outpatient care.

Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said earlier that the fire occurred on Friday morning at an enterprise in the district.

Search and rescue operations were continuing at the site.
