Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.65 percent to 3,381.58 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.43 percent higher at 10,048.39 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.12 trillion yuan (about $156.18 billion), up from 1.07 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares in the shipping, oil and gas, and semiconductor sectors gained the most, while those related to pork and liquor suffered most.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, increased 0.39 percent to close at 2,017.63 points on Monday.
