PARIS - Wang Xinyu of China was eliminated by British player Emma Raducanu 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the women's singles first round of the French Open on Monday.
After the 2021 US Open champion Raducanu fought hard to win the first set 7-5, Wang bounced back to take a comfortable 5-1 lead and claim a 6-4 victory despite a late surge of Raducanu in the second set.
Then, the 22-year-old Raducanu controlled the pace to seal the win in the final set 6-3, who will face the fifth-seeded Iga Swiatek of Poland in the second round.
At Roland Garros, Wang, 23, once triumphed in the women's doubles of French Open in 2023 and pocketed a silver in the mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
