BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.22 percent to 3,380.19 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.72 percent lower at 10,219.62 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.1 trillion yuan (roughly $152.91 billion), down from 1.17 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in sectors such as banking, insurance and gaming led the gains, while those related to solid-state batteries and the pet industry were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.96 percent to close at 2,045.57 points on Thursday.
