Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.82 percent to 3,369.24 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.72 percent higher at 10,301.16 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.31 trillion yuan (roughly $181.69 billion), expanding from 1.19 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to robots and consumer electronics led the gains, while those in the agriculture and innovative drug sectors were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.63 percent to close at 2,064.71 points.
