Shipping experts and professionals from around the world will gather in Hong Kong to discuss industry trends and explore the opportunities amid changes in global trade and transportation, at the World Maritime Merchants Forum (WMMF), which begins on Nov 18.

“Under the challenging world, Hong Kong is seeking opportunities among the challenges,” said Lothair Lam Ming-fung, WMMF chairman and general manager. “The Policy Address 2024 pointed out the development of the city as a smart port, but it seems that the main focus of the policy may be on high value added maritime services.”

“Even though Singapore has advanced in some aspects in shipping, we should not forget that Hong Kong has a huge advantage. That is, relying on the motherland,” he added.

The three-day event will hold one main forum and seven thematic forums, focusing on the latest policy updates, oil and gas shipping market, maritime law and finance, logistic supply chains, and digital transformation in shipping.

The event also will strive to enrich the maritime atmosphere in Hong Kong. “We are using various activities to enhance the stakeholders’ experience,” said Yuan Bo, WMMF’s coordinating team leader.
