The National Immigration Administration said it is strengthening cooperation with immigration departments in the United States and other countries to combat migrant smuggling.

Recently, smugglers in China and abroad and cross-border criminal organizations lured people to join their migrant smuggling activities, which have seriously threatened the people's safety, caused great economic losses and even claimed lives, a spokesperson of the administration said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The spokesperson said the administration is working with relevant departments in the US and other countries to firmly crack down on such crimes and hold migrant smuggling plotters and organizers accountable.
The cooperation has seen positive outcomes in terms of getting clues, the pursuit of fugitive smugglers, the investigation of relevant cases and the repatriation of people smuggled.

The administration will continue to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation and work with relevant countries to jointly address the challenges brought by organized migrant smuggling, the spokesperson said.
