Mainland university starts teaching class in Hong Kong

Shenzhen University Hong Kong College has started teaching the first class of 95 enrolled students from Hong Kong, in a bid to promote the two-way integration and development of education in Shenzhen and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Shenzhen University is the first Chinese mainland university to open a school in Hong Kong, having recruited the first batch of freshmen majoring in internet and new media studies. This is a brand discipline in the humanities and social sciences of Shenzhen University, and enjoys a good academic reputation among mainland universities.

Classes are conducted in Hong Kong to ensure teaching quality. Hong Kong students can access the library, stadiums and professional facilities of the main campus of Shenzhen University. The syllabus and curriculum are consistent with those of the main campus, while graduation assessment and the award of academic qualifications and degrees are implemented in accordance with the regulations of Shenzhen University.

Zhang Xiaohong, vice-president of Shenzhen University, said the university will expand contacts with departments of the HKSAR government, and universities and enterprises in the city, establish exchanges and cooperation, and create better conditions for students’ internships, employment and entrepreneurship.

Enrolled students said that the courses combine the innovative vitality of Shenzhen University with the unique international vision of Hong Kong which is consistent with their future career development plans.

It is believed that through conducting classes in Hong Kong by a mainland university, the two-way integration and development of education in Shenzhen and Hong Kong can be promoted, serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and provide more diverse choices for Hong Kong youth to receive high-quality higher education locally.

The bachelor degree courses offered by the university’s Hong Kong College are registered under the Hong Kong Education Bureau in accordance with Section 10 of the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance (Chapter 493).
