ADEN, Yemen - Yemen's Houthi group on Sunday publicly commended Hezbollah's rocket attacks on Israel earlier in the day, calling it a "large and courageous attack".

In a statement released by the political bureau of the Houthis, the armed group said Hezbollah's "strong response" demonstrated its sincerity in fulfilling its promises and threats.

The statement, released through media outlets affiliated with the Houthi group, emphasized that Hezbollah's military action, which they claim penetrated deep into Israeli territory, proves the Lebanese armed group's capability, strength, and commitment to its declared intentions.

Earlier in the day, Hezbollah announced it had launched hundreds of rockets into Israel in retaliation for the killing of its commander, Fouad Shokor, in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut last month.

Meanwhile, Israel announced that it had conducted preemptive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah's rocket launchers in southern Lebanon.

Expressing solidarity with Hezbollah, the Houthi political bureau voiced its support for all options and operations aimed at responding to Israel.

The group reiterated that a Yemeni response to recent Israeli actions is "inevitably coming."

The Houthi group's statement of support comes in the wake of Israeli airstrikes on oil storage facilities in the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah in western Yemen in July.

Following these attacks, the Houthis have repeatedly vowed to retaliate against Israel. Since the outbreak of the conflict between Hamas and Israel in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have carried out sporadic missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets.

The group has also targeted ships in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, claiming these vessels are either Israeli or linked to Israel.
