By Wang Zhan

Passenger traffic at Shenzhen’s land crossings set another new record on Saturday, with a total of 887,000 passenger trips processed.

The traffic comprises 487,000 inbound passenger trips and 400,000 outbound passenger trips, Shenzhen Evening News quoted Shenzhen municipal government’s Office of Port of Entry and Exit as saying on Sunday.

The number of cross-boundary passengers between Hong Kong and Shenzhen have been on the rise since the COVID pandemic waned in in 2023. Spikes are often witnessed on days of mega-events and holidays.

Saturday (August 10) fell on Qixi Festival, the seventh day of seventh month on the lunar calendar. Known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, Qixi commemorates the romantic tale of Niulang (the Cowherd) and the heavenly Zhinu (the Weaver Girl).
