BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.41 percent to 3,091.2 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.05 percent higher at 9,469.32 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 745.71 billion yuan (about $104.91 billion), down from 830.7 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares in the automobile service and electricity sectors led the gains, while those related to education suffered significant losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.33 percent to close at 1,843.59 points.
